Typically, a general power of attorney will not expire. A limited power of attorney, however, does of a set date in which the power holder can act on behalf of the principal. We're seeing a trend today where financial institutions are questioning power of attorneys that are sometimes five or 10 years olds. I would suggest seeing your attorney to update your power of attorney every three to five years.
